I was so impressed by the ACPA article written by Robert Miller of CIFA/Zoomlion called " What the Contractors are Saying" it is spot on and well worth the read. This article deas with such topics as "Dont just know your coasts, know your competitors costs" "Diversify" "Think Profit not Valume" "Analyze your customer base"
The other article I loved was written by Rob Edwards (ConcretePumping.com's very own safety consultant) called Hose Whipping. Please do not miss this read. You can take a look at the online ACPA mag by click on this link. http://mydigimag.rrd.com/publication/?i=47420 Good Job ACPA |

I still think that having a reduced size end hose, (some even go down to a size 3'' or even 2,5'' increeses the risk of hosewhipping with tens maybe even hundrets of times. I think thats the biggest hazzard we can have on the tip of our boom. But somehow almost everyone seems to preach that thats the safe way to go... |

Ruducing in steel is far better than the reduction in rubber hose such as the ruffneck. Perhaps we should be reducing1/4" more in the steel reducer than the final tip hose ID. That would virtually ensure that there is no follow-up plug in the rubber. Thoughts? |

It's not about plugging. Its only about air. If you have a thin endhose it takes more pressure to push the concrete through. So the air will get more compressed. Ond also the amount of concrete in a thin hose is much less. So when the air comes it goes through the hose much quicker. With a 5'' endhose you'd have to pump quite extreem fast to get a big hosewhip. But with a thin hose it whips much quicker. Also a 5'' hose itsself is much heavyer and stiffer so doesn't whip because of it's own weight. But a 3'' is so light it flys around like a firehose. But its just my opinion. I don't want to force others to agree with my opinion.. I am just so surprised that everyone is so much after safety here and most of us are quite smart but no one seems to see the problem here. I think the perfect solution is still not invented. |

Todd, thanks for the acknowlegement, but please also give credit to Mrs. Collins of the ACPA, I was just helping her to get very needed points across to better the pumping industry for all. Bob Miller |
