I just got this email from the ACPA. Dear Members, I regret to inform you that longtime ACPA member, Alexander A. Wagner, Sr. passed away at his home in Wayne, New Jersey on April 12, 2012. Mr. Wagner was 87 years old. He was a past ACPA board member and a recipient of the ACPA Pioneer Award as well as the coveted ACPA Lifetime Achievement Award.
Mr. Wagner is survived by his three children, Alex Wagner, Jr., Frank Wagner, and Elizabeth Wagner, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. His wife, Ruth Wagner, preceded him in death in January 1993.
Alexander A. Wagner, Sr.
He was born in Englewood, NJ and lived many years in Palisades Park, NJ raising his family there and began his construction business in that area. In 1996, he located to Wayne, NJ. He was the founder of Alexander Wagner Co., Inc. located in Paterson, NJ. Termed as a pioneer by his peers in the concrete pumping industry, he helped bring the concrete pumping industry from its infancy in the 1960s into adulthood. He was instrumental in the advancement of the industry as it struggled to gain acceptance in the marketplace. After serving in WWII, he began his 55 year career in the construction industry building homes for family members. Then in 1950 he started his own mason contracting business and built house foundations throughout New Jersey and the metro New York region. He was the founder of the Metro Concrete Pumping Association in 1975 which still exists today to negotiate contracts with local unions on behalf of its members. In collaboration with the New York Concrete Institute Board, he was one of the authors of the first manual of proven effective mix designs for ready-mix producers. By 1974, his company was incorporated as Alexander Wagner Co., Inc. which is now run by his two sons Alex Jr. and Frank Wagner. His many awards include the ACPA Pioneer Award in 2003, the R.E. Henry award in 1988 and the ACPA Board of Directors Award in 1987 for seven years of service rendered as an active board member.
Viewings will be held on Sunday, April 15 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Moore’s Home For Funerals located at 1591 Alps Road – Wayne, NJ (973)-694-0072 . A funeral mass will be held on Monday, April 16 at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at Madonna Chapel and Mausoleum located in Fort Lee, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project online at www.woundedwarriorproject.org or by calling (904)-296-7350 .
Mr. Wagner was one of the true pioneers and statesmen of the pumping industry and will be sadly missed by all.
