Alexander A. Wagner Sr., 87, of Wayne, died April 12, 2012

He is survived by his children Alex Wagner Jr., Frank Wagner, and Elizabeth Wagner, four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

His wife Ruth Wagner preceded him in death in January 1993.

Wagner was born in Englewood and lived many years in Palisades Park, raising his family there and beginning his construction business in that area. In 1996, he located to Wayne. He was the founder of Alexander Wagner Co., Inc. located in Paterson. Termed as a pioneer by his peers in the concrete pumping industry, he helped bring the industry from its infancy in the 60s into adulthood. He was instrumental in the advancement of the industry as it struggled to gain acceptance in the marketplace. After serving in World War II, he began his 55 year career in the construction industry building homes for family members. Then in 1950 he started his own mason contracting business and built house foundations throughout New Jersey and the metro New York region. He founded the Metro Concrete Pumping Association in 1975 which still exists today. In collaboration with the New York Concrete Institute Board, he was one of the authors of the first manual of proven effective mix designs for ready-mix producers. By 1974, his company was incorporated as Alexander Wagner Co., Inc. which is now run by his two sons Alex Jr. and Frank Wagner. His many awards include the ACPA Pioneer Award in 2003, the R.E. Henry Award in 1998, and the ACPA Board of Directors Award in 1987 for seven years of service rendered as an active board member.
