What is the life expectancy on these carbon fiber booms ? What does sunlight, oil , do to the integrity of these booms ?

I work in CIFA and I can tell you we did our homework.

The CARBOTECH booms have been developed and thoroughly tested to meet or exceed traditional steel sections performances over time.

That's why they come with a 5 years warranty (as per all of our boom pumps). There are pumps working on the field since 2010 that are still in perfect condition.

The factors considered that were tested are many more than just sunlight (UV effect), temperature,  oil, acid, concrete or diesel fuel. During this work we could also prove one big advantage of carbon fiber booms over steel ones: because of the layered structure, they behave better with fatigue - any defect (or damage) is unlikely to propagate through the whole thickness of the structure. This means more lifetime and/or more safety for the operator.

In the pictures attached one of the impact tests made, just to know.

on CFBs, does a different type of pipe have to be mounted or can good old esser duel wall still be used?  is it 5"pipe through the whole boom or has it been redusced to a smaller pipe?

Standard 5 inches double wall are ok. CIFA produces its own double walled pipes (as standard on all boom pumps) named CIFA Long Life Pipes.

5 Inches are mantained all the boom long. No tricks here.

that is very cool , if , a repair did have to be made to a section of boom , could it ? A pipe rack mount ?  A crack ? You know how operators are , if it can be broke , they find a way . And is the weight substantially lighter ?

there are plenty of techniques to repair composites... just not common in our industry...yet! under many aspects a proper repair on steel is more complex than the average on composites. i will post some media on this

Here's a link to a video that shows some of the repair methods that can be used.

Note that most repairs are doable without disassembling the section.
