Wondering if anybody has inquired or has any info in converting a black & white remote system to a proportional system, if at all possible and what's involved. I've gotten lots of conflicting responses so far. Thanks in advance. Brand of pump in question is a schwing. |

anything is possible if you have enough money and know how |

if its cable hard wire remote, depending if the hydraulic valve bank its voltage related or current related. The simplest method would be to install a dial that increases/decreses the output voltage or current from the joystick control to the valve itself. It would not be true proportional but rather setting dependent. True proportional with feedback from the joystick can be that can only be accomplished with sensors built within the joystick control itself. A radio remote is inheritly more complex and mostly application dependent by design. However some of the newer digital hbc primarily proprtional radios for example have a built in option that can switch from proportional to b/w if the dib switch on the card is enabled/disabled. Simple answer: Safest bet is to invest in a new radio remote |

hi rookie, i am just going down the same path, brought a 26m x4 schwing from france, i am based in uk replaced all wear parts gland seals, piston heads all hydrauilic pipes behind hopper six brand new hannkock tyres new fuel tank, sun visor made up new racks , as mine is also black and white you can get what they call ahydrulic actuator, it bolts on to the manual levers, but converts to radio remote, from italy they are about £2,000 for the actuator and about £2,500 for reciver box and radio remote, plus a good sparky i have one |

Rookie,
since you are still running a b&w, maybe it is time to replace the pump complelety? |

gboom are you crazy, most of the booms with b/w controls in that era where indestructable and over engineered. So good where the designs that the boom could take harsh operator pulsations that came with a B/w design and mistreatement. A testament to german engineering. I doubt any modern boom today could handle such treatment on a daily basis. Keep in perspective that most of these pumps ended up in africa amongst operators that barely know how to drive a car! |

Thanks PUMBO for your info, I appreciate the feed back. In regards to old and new pumps, I have all machines that are proportional. My problem is that the new operators of today, don't know how,or what, and could care less what a B/W remote is! All they do know is, if my cordless remote fails, they have a day off. So, with that said, I don't want this machine that I'm looking at,being only run by myself. Sure I could take the time to teach them, but again, they would just call in with "I'm not feeling well today" card rather than try to do something that is more difficult than what they are expected to do already, which is by far easier than a B/W system. In regards to new versus old equipment, I have to agree with PUMBO. The new stuff is designed to fail. KIWI, thank you for that info, definitely an avenue to follow for more info! Any chance you could message my some contact info for this dealer? KIWI, are you pursuing that avenue with your particular pump? If so, could you keep me posted please. Thanks in advance, Rookie |

on the pictures, there is a web site, should be able to get all info from that, there was some one in canada that got me a wireing digram from schwing germany, because schwing uk just drag there feet, i just typed in remote and lots came up the reason i am going that way, since i got pump could not get boom to lift on mauals, had some one i know whos very good on pumps, all the lights came on and he could get levers to move but just not on box , we think it could be one of the circirt boards, so have didcided to by pass and wire in a new reciver and radio remote, i think you would be able to wire the actuator, on your remote as it works off the levers, just ordered mine so hopefully have it up and running in a about six weeks , will send in some photos hope this helps |

Pumbo: if everyone thinks like you, noone would be selling new pumps anymore; fact is that B/W is outdated, new technology is available and "newer" pumps can take some abuse (granted not as much as the older ones)
Kiwi: have you had any experience as far as longevity with this set up? |

hi gboom no , fundamentally its used on hydraulic systems that only use manual levers, so by putting on a hydraulic actuator it take away the clumsiness of using levers, when you can do it more smoothly, with a remote mainly used manual cranes, but all i am doing is by passing circuit boards and re wiring a new receiver and remote, so i will still have controls on back of pump for setting up and wash out ect, rather than spend loads of money trying to find out why, old remote wont work , its cheaper to buy a new one and get pump out to work, as its been sat in yard for three months |
