Why is it that so many people are still using these I was kicked off a site because I would not use one nor do I carry one. But still there are so many companies that allow this. I was sure when I took the ACPA test that using a double 90 or any steel on the end was a hard fail. I tried to explain it in so many ways to this guy and he did not get it. I said to him after I was a little hotttt even though your wife might not want you back home it is my job to make this site safe when I am pumping concrete. I dont think he understood what I was saying with that blank look on his face....anyway rember play safe even when others dont want you too....

I have encountered the same problems, and I got run off a job because a guy in our company was doing this with the double 90's,I showed up and didn't have 2 90's and wouldn't have used them if I had,and was told I couldn't pump without them,so I said I couldn't pump with them due to safety issues, and I was kicked off the job.So I went and pumped somewhere else that day safely. If your hoseman doesn't like concrete on him maybe he should find another profession, anything hanging from a hose is a safety issue especially metal 90's I think you did the rite thing.Congratulations and keep pumping safe.

LOL yes these guys that show up to be a hoseman dressed like they should be going golfing make me laugh or they dont have any PPE I carry extra safety glasses just because of charactors like them.

Now here is what could have happened you get a new operator who is learning and gets harrased by a guy like that about using a double 90 so he puts it on because for some reason or another there is one in the belly box. So trying to please the guy and then for some reason it sucks air and it whipps if it does not kill the guy he gets injured then you get the labour board in there investigating it then the lawyers get into it and then all of a sudden it is a law suit on why you were a unsafe operator all because there are to many placers who know everthing about pumping concrete and they dont want to get dirty so they can go to the course and shoot 18 after work....

YOU MUST BE TALKING ABOUT AN S BEND? INSTEAD INVEST IN A 3 1/2" HOSE ,IT SLOWS THE MUD DOWN SO IT DOSE'NT SPLATTER AS MUCH. YOU DON'T HALF TO PUMP AS FAST TO KEEP IT FULL

Do any of yall ever use a Rams Horn with a 4 inch hose for walls or styrofoam forms? Just curious as to who use them? do you think they are safe?

Only time I use the S tube or double 45*90* is for ICF walls, 10mm P-stone. I used a roughneck 5-4 whip for a bit, went to one of our customers who always wants the S tube on standard 8" duraform walls so it don't beat the hell out of his forms, I always refused to use it he'd get mad as hell call the office, after many times explaining it to him why I wouldn't use the S tube, I got a small plug in the 5-4 whip from a chunk of pre-cast, I didn't have time to get on it, it dislodged, the whip went off like a rocket, scared the piss out him, when everybody calmed down, I asked him, "Still want to use that S tube?" he never asked to use the S tube again.... Some people need to see it to believe it! Not sure what the law states if any exists in Ontario, but I never use steel on the whip with a hose man on the end of it....

I don't have a real issue using a S tube or Ram's horn for ICF Styrofoam walls, other than trying not to get things swinging around too much:).. it's slow, low volume, usually good mix, and most times the ready mix drivers got the hopper filled right up and 2 meters of concrete slobbered all over the back of the pump, so no issue with hopper going dry, and sucking in air that way...IMO

mmm so what you are telling me you think it is safe to use a double 90 for ICF you are willing to chance a plug even on a slow pour. I know icf is like watching paint dry but why risk it hey if the icf blocks cant take a 3.5 inch well who wants them...lol and what if you had to swing your boom in a emergency situation and that pendulum starts swinging and you hit some one. Remember accidents are never caused by one thing it is a combination of little things that lead up to it... I know I see it on the slopes every winter. Have a gr8 may24 weekend

oh just so you know I have operated a 40m like you have and I have had boom and stroke pressure surges so having a full hopper only saves you from sucking air not the other 100 things that can go wrong

Bottom line is that if/when something happens; you the pump company is wrong to have used them. The plaintiff’s lawyer will eat you for a snack. You will loose, you will pay, and you will pay much more for two reasons.

1.      Because you knew better

2.    Because you did it anyway

I have by example did ICF my way (pea gravel) and after job put on what he wanted.Being the trouble maker I am water washed with his wants on the tip.

Now you want to see a sight is when the water hits the hose.I have them watch as that hose looked like a king cobra, you big enough to hold that?.Got some strange answers.

I really like Art's and 3's idea better, those headers work better.
