sucking ur ball back,I have been doing it the same way for 15+ years with no problems, now a fellow operator is chewing my ass because I wont stand the 58 putz verticle ,I drain out 3 and 4 and reverse the pump several strokes so my thought is only having mud in the 90's of 3 and 4 and only having minimal mud from 2 back to the hopper,1 and 2 are verticle, thoughts welcome.. |

I ran a 58 behind a guy who sucked back vertical, he still had build up in every 90, I cleaned all 90s and started doing it my way and for the year I ran it I never went vertical did exactly what you do and never once had a issue. |

if it works for u then stick with it- perhaps they have to go vertical every time cos theyre too lazy to change the turret gasket! |

why should it be a problem if it works ? The only i time we have to go vertical with any pump is a very badly leaking seal, wear plate to cutting ring distance or being folded up in a z in a building with really crap concrete. Perhaps there other or former operators have been pulling the balls back at 300 mph ? |

They would look foolish standing a 58 straight up just to suck back. Also its dangerous. What if mud falls out or rocks from 150 feet in the air. or worse yet your pump switch get turned the wrong way. |

When i was a beginner i used to stand my 28M straight up to suck back. One time a small bit of concrete fell, Just a small bit and it blew out my front windsheild.. My advice: two round sponges with five gallons of water inbetween. "A" frame. If you must plastic bag the second. But with a good sponge you won't. |

Its been a while since i read the manual, but if i remember correctly Schwing recomend sucking the boom back with it in the a frame position, or 1 and 2 locked out and 3 and 4 hanging! I have done it this way for 13 years with no trouble. |
