I have a question how cold can you pump without your pipe wrapped It is getting colder here in southern ontario and we have not done our trucks yet and after freezing my but off in 40 mph winds all day yesterday. I was wondering..... Also we have heated water tanks on our trucks but the water does not heat very well and I am only filling it half way 350 litres or so and the water is over 120 when I put it in... and yes the valves are open from the engine anyone else have this issue |

My water tank heater does not work either. It sends and the element gets too hot to put your hand on but I think the circulation is too slow. A guy I met that has a septic truck put a circulator pump on his. I do not wrap my pipes. After freezing solid last winter my cut off is 0 degrees, no wind chill and the temperature rising! I personally do not think it is worth the seven hundred bucks! |

Having pumped in the Colorado mountains for a long time I will say this.I have frozen a few booms (I have) and it usually gets you after you are already pouring. They say wind only affects inadament objects, looks good on paper but I like others have been bit.I do believe in insulating the boom?, 100%.There was a recent thread about this and penny wise.Cost was mentioned, mmmmm,if properly taken care of you can reuse it.I did see some good ideas in the thread. There could be a downside to insulating, people tend to think you can pour in any weather.Personally some days by the fire place in warrented. |

JUST TO SHARE A LITTLE HUMOR.. Down here in Florida we often have to fight the general contractor to go ahead and pour if--its not 40 degrees and rising. Honest- dont know how many times we have been thru this. several years back had a job in Ocala Fla. temp droped to 25 or so over night, pump set up on job in the morning (high expected to be aout 50-55) concrete company cancelled on us. REASON- all water lines at plant froze. I feel for you guy up north. |

Here in N.C. we have the same problem, readymix plants shutting down because of frozen waterlines, and we're in a freeze zone!"WE DONE IT THIS WAY FOR 30 YEARS"Sometimes the old mentality gets to me! Like Tuesdays pour! 3rd load arrives, driver won't get of his truck to look at it,it's TOO cold,(31 degrees)QC doesn't bother either, and the driver stacks up his chute and hopper. So what does he do,he swings the chute over next to my outrigger and dumps it on the ground, and splatters concrete all over my truck! I had spatter on THE FRONT WHEELS! So I had a temper tantrum of sorts, kicking the pile in the direction of the readymix truck! Now the driver wants to fight! I'll tell you something about this part of the south, only the dumbest get to be mixer drivers. |

Thanks for all your info but I have to ad that the southern US does not have dibs on dumb mixer drivers they are everywhere.....lol 90% OF THEM THAT HAVE DELIVERED TO ME are idiots the other 10 % are great and will help you when you have to move to another site and will listen maybe one day the numbers will reverse but I doubt it....lol Now as for the pipe when it is not a freezer out side and the lake effect snow stops I will do my boom... again thanks for the info
