Company always uses foil back with Fiberglas to insulate the boom in the past. Anyone have success with bubble wrap? Would look much better, I think, after repairs to leaky rubbers etc, at the end of a long winter in Northern Alberta. In the shop at the moment trying to fortify my case but all I find on the web is that foil back is good for stopping radiant heat, and an air pocket works better for insulting, tug of war here lol. Thanks for your input |

The fibreglas product you are talking about will absorb and retain more water than the bubble wrap product. Water = weight. I would suspect that the fibreglas stuff is much more expensive too. For me it's not so much as the R value, as the dead air space to reduce the cooling effect of wind. |

Hey we run the bubble wrap on our pumps we have 5 and they all get it done it is enough to keep everything alive for about the same time as it would in the summer. If you are in canada you know what -30C does to things and how it affects everything. We found it the cheapest to thus far to help us out in the winter we have been out in some nasty cold weather and never had issues within reason. We have been putting on the foil/bubble bubble/foil if that makes sense keeps the heat in and cold out in winter and heat out and cool concrete in the summer. |

never thought of the heat out in the summer, thats a pretty good idea as well. The boss spends so much effort in making that boom pipe green though lol |

We use the insulated bubble wrap here as well. I am going to try wrapping the boom pipe in shrink wrap first then the bubble wrap to see if I can save the paint on the pipes. |

Z-Boom, just use any household cling wrap (Saran Wrap). The foil on the bubble insulation can rub and leave grey marks (on white pipe at least) Also, this stuff comes in a single layer of bubbles, or a double layer for more R-value. |

i always use old concrete blankets and zip ties. Looks good, lasts all winter. Works for me down to 15 degrees F |

Might have won the boss over and saved the itch of insulating, gave me the job of pricing. |
