Maintenance tips for the Professional Concrete Pump Operator
Rotate spark plugs after every oil change.
When a pipe is too short to fit properly on the boom - use only a manufactuerer approved pipe stretcher.
During your DOT walk thru make sure your tail lights have the proper amount of blinker fluid.
To improve boom functions and make them faster install a fast electricty switch that you can activate remotely
A tip to help prevent dents in your boom pipe and to make changing leaking gaskets faster is to store all your gaskets on your piple line - completely line you pipe with gaskets by slipping them over the pipe. Once your entire pipeline is covered you are accomplishing many things at once. Your pipeline will bounce off when you hit red iron beams or the sides of houses! It will also protect the paint from being scrapped by the tree limbs you boom through. When a gasket leaks you just open the clamp cut off the old gasket and slide the new one up. (super tip - The truely professional operator knows that when he uses all his gaskets that the pipe may be worn out and time to change)
Insure all your tires are mounted with the valve stem on the top of the tire. This makes it easier to keep the tires full.
Cleaning your pump is a challenge for everyone - Here is a tip that not only helps keep your cab clean, it reduces energy consumption and increases speed and MPG. In the winter coat your cab with black grease. Black helps the cab absorb the heat from the sun and you do not have to use your heater as often. In the summer coat it with white grease. White repels the enegery of the sun so less air conditioning is needed. Both greases have the duel purpose of not allowing concrete to stick and make the cab slicker when it comes to wind currents created while driving.
With all the new styles of booms it becomes harder for operators to know everything about them. You have Z booms, roll and fold booms, z and roll and fold booms, booms that the tip section rotates, 3 section, 4 section, 5 section 6 section and even telescoping booms. Even the most seasoned operator has issues on what his unit is supposed to do. That problem is now solved with the new Popiel Instant Tatoos system. Made from high grade not fading ink you simply place a diagram of every boom type and style on your forearm for an instant cheat sheet. Never be caught off guard again!

I usually cover any surface that I will walk on with my muddy boots with slick pack. The deck and especially the floor board and pedals. This keeps the mud from sticking and makes it easier to clean. |

I solve every plug in my hoses, by full throttle and full hydraulicflow. If the problem is not solve by that - doubble the full thottle (on my injection dieselengine with no carborator).......The higher RPM, the better to solve a plug.... |
