Hey I was a roll and fold guy but the Z in my opinion is better  wires, trees. odd set ups and the one I operate is smooth,smooth smooth I can have it really putting out the mud and little or zero boom movement. 2 weeks ago  we had some major weather comming through and I pumped a 25 meter wall in 25 minutes sucked  the ball folded up and did a quick wash and the sky lit up and rain, rain, rain washed the truck for me...lol but just so you know I prime in A or 3 out and one down that way you bring it back into Z pattern fast.

Also this Z can go from Boom out to complete fold and in the cradle in under 3 minutes... sweet when you have move 10 x in one day.

I think the z was a good choice, and thanks for confirming.

Here is a quick question. When your doing a slab or a footer and you have a wide open setup area, no trees, powerlines, ect. Do you keep the boom A framed as much as possible, or do you prefer to run it in Z configuration? I normally run it A frame if at all possible, that way I can drop the hose, suck the ball back, and then throw the 3rd section straight up to lock the hose into the the holding brackets and then fold her up real quick like and wash out. I guess its just operator preference. Also, I agree that Putz's are definitly smoother than a Schwing, for sure, but they are also really easy to adjust the boom when on the job. Just take the cover off the receiver box, and choose snail or rabbit, hold down a function while either pressing the speed up button, or slow down button. Piece of cake. I like to have the snail function adjusted slow and smooth, but have the rabbit function wide open for every section. That way when it comes time to either wash out, or fold up and move somewhere else, it will take less than 2 minutes to bring the boom from being completely stretched out, to folded in the cradle. Makes life easier when you have a stiff mix in the truck and your really pressed for time.

As you said it is prefference, I always ran roll and folds so I tend to like A frame, I hear the Z is much faster folding and manufactures make them because of cost also. It can be a pain in situations were you can't a frame and suck a sponge, but then it can be a benefit for other situations. My concern is the latter, as we are always fighting power lines and can't pump hopper back into trucks then get comfortable to suck the sponge. I think we are getting to the point were we need enviro sacks to pump into. The work sites are getting to unfriendly as they are not leaving enough setup and pump out room. I did pump fastest and smoothest at A frame though. Todays chemicals and modern pump cells almost eliminate the air loss through the boom sindrom.

A frame or Z I like both if I am wide open it is A frame but I use the Z when in tight situations and I find operating in A sometimes can be a pain just because if you are comming close to the truck then you have alot of over hang into the footing or wall ,slab... what ever and if you have a failure and for what ever reason the boom comes down and the crews are unware well you know what can happen.

Now in Z you have everything comming in together and should the same situation happen it is all there tight and either beside you or in front of you. I have not been a operator as long as many of you and with being a ski patroler maybe I look for what can happen becuase I found with going accidents on the ski hill and being there for any accident ...it is never just one thing that causes a accident it is a combination of little things that lead to it so I do my best when pumping to try and limit the small stuff that could unfold { pardon the pun} to eliminate the start up process of disaster and even if it takes me longer and I have some idiot yelling at me I explain to them why I am doing what I am doing... 9x out of 10 they go oh or great stuff or they are just to thick too get it.

You see just because I can save most people from any accident situation does not mean I want to do it at work I am there to make money, pump mud and have fun if possible and do a good job and make sure we all go home.

And it doesn't get any better than that! ;~)

We use 5" balls. We get them from Schwing, usually. To go a cheaper route, try using a foam Nerf ball from Wal-Mart or somewhere. To make it last longer, you can wrap it in a layer of Ductape.

Hi, I operate a 36Z. There is nothing like a Z boom. I prime out in A frame when possible, but if I'm in a hurry, or if the situation makes it necessary, I prime out in a Z and I don't worry about, even with a three inch hose. As far as clean out, I usually suck a bucket, ever tried that? I've never tried it in Z, I don't think it would work, but if I'm in a tight spot I just fold up and move outside to where I can get A framed, or last resort suck a ball.
