I didn't take the time to inspect the reducer on my truck this spring. It did feel a little light but I never thought it was this bad. I got a plug from a fin sluff off the RM trucks drum. I tried to push it out (I know dumb idea) when my 39m schwing maxed out at 320 bar, I flipped to reverse to releive pressure but it was too late! The reducer split open and blew hitting me in the back of the head with mud knocking me to the ground unconcious. I came out of this with a concussion, some cuts and a major headache but, more importantly I learned a valuable lesson on upkeep of placement hoses, reducers ect..

 I posted this not to get my balls busted (go ahead, I deserve it) but to remind us all of the dangers of overpressures during plugs and rock jams! Keep everyone away from the business end of the boom till you can reduce the PSI !!

What hit you on the head?

The concrete as it blew out, I was standing under the reducer, foolishly.

we get a new reducer i weld 6 lines inside on the 4in side welds are gone i check reducer or scrap it dont feel bad it hapen to me but i didnt get nocked out

Does look quite thin yes.. So important to check these reducers and other couplings.. We stand under them almost every day and they will hit you hard in the head  Happy your alive

Thanks for your post. I hope you went to a doctor to get checked out!!  Hey don't be so hard on yourself . The only mistake I see you made was to try to push it thru. When I plug or jam in a reducer I reverse pump pressure remove reducer ( check) pump some out (making sure jam is cleared) then put reducer back on. Think about it :This would not of happened if you did not jam!! I can't pump those mixer fins ither.Most of all I like hearing you taking responsibility for what happened .
