I need to see some pictures of cups and dogbones out of schwing and putz. I'm fixin to convert my Cifa cups over to something different. I don't like the whole idea of greasing the cups. Not because I'm lazy, I grease mine faithfully. Doing a lot of different things to my 36 meter while I have it shut down for new jugs. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks

Where I used to work they have a 48m,47m,40m,31m we always used slick-pak II works fine in the water box

They are all CIFA's

Didn't grease the pistons on my 40m, and they lasted almost 50.000 metres.
I do grease them on the CIFA pumpmixers though, because of the low hydraulic pressure on those wich isn't high enough to lube the pistons it seems...

mudcup - i was always taught to not run slick pac in the waterbox, i can get in the hydraulic system. The biggest problem with not greasing them is when the grout goes in the grease holes on the cups. The grout gets hard and then if the cup gets a hard spot on it (the hard spot is going to wear on both cup and jug). I know my jugs are wore out on both my pumps and that could have a lot to do with it but i also think the jugs are wore out from not greasing them. Pump N00b - The 40m is a closed loop system and mine aren't, they do have higher hyd pressure. Hyd pressure doesnt have much to do with it unless oil injectors were put on it. I would like to put injectors on mine when i put the new jugs in. Cifa told me it couldnt be done without putting on an extra oil system. They say it will cause issues if i tap into existing system. There are grease zerks on the dogbones and i grease them, if they weren't supposed to be greased they wouldn't be there. My pumps are 9 and 10 years old, i know that's old but i have run older that are in better shape. The jugs should not be wore out (at least not as bad as they are). I believe its from not greasing the cups and changing the water in the waterbox everyday.

Don’t you mean material cylinder or barrels?  Jugs is a term for mud cups.

txredman made a good point about the waterbox. The single most important thing you can do to extend the life of your mud cups is keeping your water box clean and changing the water in your water box at the end of your day. My pump experience is limited to Schwing only, but I can't imagine this being bad advice for any brand of pump.

I know why and what you are trying to do, I would not switch to schwing cups the putzmeister design last much much longer you need the dogbone off a putz to show a machinist on how to make you a converter dogbone it can be done and has been done effectively.
