every time I see that I feel for the operator, accidents like this can and do happen to even the most experienced of us. To take something positive from this unfortunate occurrence I would like to think that this video has made some of us (myself included) safer/more cautious/aware operators. Every time I setup, operate, and takedown my boom the image in my head of this video clip has got me double and triple checking everything.

"It,s a shame something like this happened to NOW make you think about your set up".......

I don't recall ever saying that ONLY after watching this video did I ever think about my setup.........  what I will say is that after seeing this incident on film, myself (as well as many others, I hope) will take every extra precaution to make certain that we don't find ourselves in a similar situation.

It's a horrible accident, but hopefully we all learn something from it.

I remember a job where I had to stand like that with an old 42m schwing. I told them i could absolutely not schwing the boom past the right front outrigger. The customer called my boss and he said I should jut do it. He said the weight of the truck would hold the pump straight. He thought i could schwing almost to the front of the truck. We had a discussion for about 20 min. Than I told him to get in his car and come and do it him self. Luckaly he didn't do it and we mannaged fine with some hoses. Wow. Now I can see how close that came to be a major disaster. It was in the middle of a bussy shopping street.

If you look very closely in the blurry distance. There was actually someone at the tip hose and you can see him run away as it fell.

He was standing where sections 1 and 2 meet in the distance. As the tip hit the ground and threw dirt, you can see his dark shirt running. Luckily he was able to get out of the way.

So if the crane had the street blocked off.Why did he cheet on the front outriger??Looked like alot of room at least to swing it all the way forward

rusty22: See the white Freightliner Cabover at the beginning of the video, then backing out of sight? It was delivering and parking an office trailer. The pump operator gave him the maneuvering room he needed by not having the outrigger out, too bad he forgot about it. He should have put his remote in the cab of his tractor - on the driver's seat. Hindsight being 20/20. Fortunately for the Cabover driver, he got out of the way. Unfortunately, he would have been stuck there for quite a while.

Stupidity.....First thing I noticed on video was the L/F outrigger. He was reckless and could killed somebody.
