Yeah cowboy. Generaly most operators use a 5" hose for a high yardage per hour pour. If your not going to pump that fast, or yuor not pumping a bad mix you wont need the larger hose. All you do with it at a slower speed is create a lot of splatter. Most of the hosemen here dont like to get any dirtier or get concrete spatter in thier eyes even with safety glasses on.

Hey Im not being a smarty pants,

But Its ilegal to run reduction hanging of the boom........

Have a look in your Putz operation manual.

You havnt got a chance to stop that when it blocks up,

Asking for headaches, take it easy out there.

Jaba where is it illegal to run a reducer off the tip overhead. And it is done everyday in the U.S.

Not forbidden, however I put it forward to anyone who can find a user manual that encourages reduction at the tip in the air. This would proboably never be the case. But would be interesting find.

There are just too many variables for even the most experienced operator to control most of these proportional to mix design and hose/pipe wear. Mass of hose and reducer assembly also a factor for boom service life.

What Jaba is saying is that The hose diameter equal to boom pipe diameter is the safest way to pump. Sometimes however with a mix like 7mm pea gravel in cavities you may have no choice but to reduce.

Safest, yes but are you the only one driving down the street everyday buy yourself, no there's always other traffic. It would be nice if we lived in a perfect world but we don't, that's why we have to be better.
