I've noticed a lot of help wanted ads......where have all the operators gone and even offering to train isn't working. Just curious

If there is anybody with experiance that wants to drive a brand new 42m putz in Norway let me know! You get a job straight away .. (And I mean realy brand new )

I don't know of any non union operator under $20 hour and most are higher. Now around this part of the country, that's great money. Long hours, yes, but what happpened with the "pride" of the job? Before I bought the company I worked for, it was the first job that I actually woke up looking forward to going to work and enjoyed it. Of coarse, like any job, it had it's sucky days but the aspect of what I got to do was awesome and at the time for a 5 year period, I made $11 an hour and that was around the year 2000. Now that I own the biz plus run one of the pumps, it's not so fun trying to schedule, run day to day biz, look at jobs + pump and bs with the customers. It's takin the joy out of what I love to do! Most days, I wish I could leave my phone off and just pump, it was enjoyable!!!!

It maybe long hours, early days and late nights but it's one of the coolest jobs there is. Who wants to stand in a factory in the same place everyday doing the same thing, talking to the same people and getting a 10 cent raise a year? If you ever want to move, 9x out of 10 you can find a job pumping.

And I didn't run a proportional pump until 2003, I started on bang bangs and tp's.

Guys I've been doing this since 1989, started as a single man, got married had kids, I always coached my kids , pumped concrete , many sleepless days and nights but I made a choice I loved my job but I had to be there for my kids also , its a rough few years , but you can't get that time back with your kids , one of mine is in college and some of the best memories made was on a ballfield, sounds crazy , but I wouldn't change any thing , working is important but your kids is #1.

I have to agree with beast ur kids have to come first. I have a little girl and another child on the way and I love my job im only 26 and I wouldnt change becoming a pump operator for anything. Nothing beats the feeling I get when a school bus pulls up and the kids come out and all u can Hear is wow look at that and just the looks on there faces. It reminds me of when I was a kid and I used to say I wanna do that one day and now I actually am doing it and I love it. It does have its days where one thing goes wrong and it feels like everything is going wrong but it keeps u on ur toes and no matter what I will always be a pump operator no matter where I have to go to be one cause I love my job and how I make life a little easier for people everywhere

this is why im glad to be in the union. After I work for another 15-18 years I should have enough to retire. Im 25 right now. Not bad :-)
