Our company runs putz and schwing pumps. I noticed that the putz pistons last much longer than the schwing pistons.I replaced mine after 8 months and 15k yards. however schwing pistons are very easy to change (approx 2 hours) it crossed my mind to put in putz cups into a schwing. diameter is the same, I only have to modify the dogbone. Anyone done that before????????

If you put putz parts in a schwing it will pump backwards and lose have its resale value.

I don't think the resale value is not an issue. the parts will be available and they always can be changed back. my question is, are the putz pitons better material or is it combination of piston and cylinder. if putz pistons are better material and if I have to replace less often than I earn back the extra trouble

If you want the jugs not to wear you need to put 1 size smaller in your truck.............

I would worry about getting the dogbone lined up correct cause if its out of line couldn't itcause wear on the push rod bushings,it doesn't take much.

i think a part of the reason the putz pistons last longer is because of the oil lubrication on the pistons

i run a schwing 24m, i am just about to do what you asked the putz piston are 3mm bigger than schwing i got two spare spacers , then went to a metal shop had them make up two washers 85mm across with 65mm centers and 5mm deep that will sit over the putz piston and the spacer will fit on that then i had two more holes drilled because bolt holes would not line up the reason for me to change is the cylinders are worn and its to stop two much slurry coming back into box, since i brought pump i have put in two new setts and only done 10,000 meters but now i also have to change gland seals will let you know how it gos

you think between the chrome barrels and the self oiling system may make a difference ?

Well I operate a Schwing and get about 10 to 15K with mine but, then again my areas mud is very sweet so it many not represent most peoples wear.

 Yes John I do believe that the systems differences is why the wears are so much different.

I found out that when you never pump insane fast You can do many years with the same pistons. On the 52 meter I managed to destroy them within about 4 months. (15000m3) The pump cilinders had to be changed after 2 years. That was because I always tried to pump full speed. Try to pump as slow as possible without the customer complaining... You get payed per hour don't you!! Here in Norway i never have to change parts. I change my cooling water in the box maybe once a week and its always clean :-o  And Thats on a JMBH made in spain... Much cheaper than putz or schwing... 

Update Dipstick your old m52 is now running with the putz pistons longer than a year and the waterbox is stil clean. Dutch Putzmeister dealer Van Der Spek is now selling conversion sets.
