Questions about the new emmission controls.

We just got a new 45m in and was curious. Does the emission system shut down when you put it in pto or is it always on. The local mack dealer couldn't tell us. Is there anything we need to pay close attention to? We've never had one like this and would like to avoid the pitfalls

, the emission control does not shut down when in pto. We had a 2009 MR, and it had a problem not initiating the regeneration, and it would go into a limp mode, not good when you are in the middle of a pour...

Ya, the emmission system is always on. sometimes the REGEN indicator comes on while pumping, made me nervous at first, but it does its BURN thing then goes out.

One thing i learnt is that if you have any engine fault light come on in the dash, like a sensor or something, the little lightning bolt lights up beside it. When this happens, the REGEN system will not work. and then soon after the "need to regen" indicator comes on. and will soon start to derate.

On my truck (2012model) when it starts to derate, like 3 or 4 hours after the light comes on. the engine will only put out half boost, then slowly less and less. that was a very stressfull day

I'm guessing there is no way to put it in a regen mode manually. So if you are driving toa job it could do it's thing.

Our 2013 has been in the shop 3 times in the last 8 months with emmision problems.

Like the others have said if you have a lightning bolt get it fixed ASAP otherwise the truck will not be able to complete regeneration and will cause you problems you do not want to deal with. If it gets to the point where it needs a regen but isn't automatically the blue regen switch will begin to flash, while in park you can hit that button and perform a manual regeneration. As long as your system is working properly you shouldn't have to mess with it. I know it's against the law to run them on off road fuel these days but don't even consider it! We had one that stayed on site full time, the fuel guy decided to be lazy and put off road in it instead if switchig his lines over. It wreaked havoc on the regen system and was in and out of Mack. Other than that we haven't had any major issues. *knock on wood*

now that you are really scared to drive the truck, they really are not terrible. I haven't had an issue since, knock on wood, but generally that emissions thing just does its thing. Be aware of it, but don't worry about it. Oh, and by the way, NEVER EVER shut the truck off while the regen thing is doing its thing(light on in dash)EVER! Even the Mack guy, on the mack hotline with the funny accent tells you that

Been lucky with a 2012.  had to leave the truck running outside one night in cold and the truck didn't regen.  hit the force regen,  the wind blew exhast right into the barn.  Nasty

Anybody else notice what a pig the truck is on fuel when in PTO?

Funnyboom- Can you hit the regen button in pto or only in park? Crazycreter- What happens if you do shut it off during the regen process?

thats one lesson i never learnt the hard way. haha! The pump sales people, mack dealer, local oilfield guys, all say that. i dont know what exactly will happen. I'm wondering what's in store for a year down the road, how long does that ceramic "fume incinerator" last, and how much is it to replace
