When forced to short rig does anyone have a system to remind the operator where he has to stop. The operator is watching the end of the hose and may lose track of the boom location. I thought of using orange cones possibly but operator may not be in position to see them. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

I put up Yellow Caution tape from the outriggers to the end of the pour.  It is about the only way.  No one else is going to look after you.

you could put the orange cones on top of the outrigger and also do the yellow tape. Can never be ever to concerned, especially short rigging. Let's learn from the mistakes in the recent paste and I think you know what I'm taliking about. And this is not to bash anyone, just saying we should simply learn from the past. Definitely like the yellow tape idea or possibly could put up a sign on the job reminding everyone and the operator the truck is short rigged.

Orange road comes work great

Cones on top of your FULLY extended outriggers and a piece of caution tape tied to the strap of your remote harness never hurts... the caution tape also serves as a visual reminder when working around powerlines.

I guess if you are inclined to SHORTRIG, you put yourself there, so after that point noone can help you but you. PAY ATTENTION after that decision becauce noone here can help you after you crossed that point.

  Nothing wrong with shortrigging....just dont forget.  orange cones is a great idea! we have an orange sleeve we put on our tip hose whenever we have powerlines present.  I use it when im shortrigged too.   

if you are the operator and you short rigged, you short rigged, not the line hand, not the site foreman, not one person on that jobsite but you the operator, if you think you cant remember that your short rigged then dont short rig. bigpumpb, you are a dickhead!!

there are many jobs that you need to short rig on i guess my2cents has never been on one!! i to have had to short rig many many times you do the extra stuff when you get in that spot.. cones tape everything what ever it takes to get home safe to the wife and kids in one peice.. have a safe day!!! 

We were on the side of a mountain. Drop off on one side mountain on the other. The owner made the site wide as possible but still not wide enough for a full set up. Thanks for the ideas everyone.

it seems to me as technology has gotten where it is shouldnt all pumps have a parameter setting to stay in the safe zone , we all at times have to shortrig so shouldnt a pump be equipped with this safety mechanism ? I know putz has OSS but shouldnt all booms have this ?

Its called operator EXPERIENCE.....   :)  

nothing wrong with that setup, just REMEMBER where your outriggers are in relation to your boom OR just REMEMBER where your boom is in relation to your outriggers, no need for tape, witches hats or a slap on the back of the head, be an OPERATOR, be FOCUSSED, IT'S YOUR JOB.

I suppose I've done pours like PUMBO's but I'd have to think twice about posting a picture.  My insurance company might be watching.  Just kidding nice pic PUMBO

 Nice set up Pumpbo, looks like some I have had to do. Mothy that is a sloping cut and it appears to be a very rocky soil and, he seems to be sitting on a limestone shelf. Up here in N.Az I have alot of sites on pure rock with sloping cuts like that. You always have to assess your soil conditions even when not short rigged.

 Short rigging is never a problem when you remain aware of the fact you are. Me personally Im never fully relaxed while short rigged and, dont relax till Im folded back up. I mentally keep myself on that edge, that is what works for me.
