When you prime with slick pak how much water do you use.I do have a prime port...

On a boom job for my first pour of the day i will use a slick pack and just mix it in the back 90 til its gettin to the port, if im on a line job I will mix it in a bucket allow it a few minutes to gel up, the gel and water will seperate. I then pour all the gel into the port and throw the water off to the side. I have found that it will not sepereate the head of the mud doing it this way which was the main reason i ever plugged priming. If I am going through alot of system I will mix up two bags of slick pack one at a time once again discarding the water and using only the good nasty snotty stuff, and so far "knock on wood" I have not plugged in i could not tell you how long.

i use the same stuff as speedy, but my prime port is after the reducer and at start on deckline

i use only a 1/4 of the bag (boom job) with about 10-15litres water

use 3/4 volume and close to full revs , never plugged even with boom flat stick

SLICK PAK GENERALLY DOESN'T WORK VERY WELL WITH LINE OFF END OF BOOM. I USUALLY PRIME BOOM,POUR SLICK PAK INTO EXTRA LINE,THEN HOOK BOOM INTO LINE,ALOT EASIER JUST TO GET 1 YARD OF 9 SACK GROUT  PISSY WET FROM READY MIX COMPANY,BUT EITHER WORKS. 

 if i use slick pac or the schwing slick i fill hopper with water up to bottom pumping cylinders (BSF52 16H) throw in bag as soon as i get to site longer you leave it the better it is just make sure the first load of concrete is wet if pumping through boom and pipeling i mix it up in 10 gallon tub half fill with water throw in one or two bags leave to gell for ten minutes the pour in where you turn over plate for sponge catcher but here in uk we mainly use bags off cement for grout

I have read countless number of these "Prime" posts and not once have anyone delt with the particular places and/or reasons for a blockage.

Everyone has the same basic concept for priming the boom; be it grout /water or commercial prime. When you are dealing with boom + 'whatever' you need to begin to consider WHERE the blockage happens. It is, unless you are clueless, at either the reduction between the placing line and the distribution hose, or in the hose its self.

Climb off of your high horse and walk, with a bucket of "whatever" and pour it in the discharge end of the additional system. After it is introduced, ROLL the discharge hose or hoses to distribute the priming agent over the entire 360 deg of the interior of the hose. Your 3 min's of effort will END the search for the perfect prime.

A guy named Dale Bone told me this trick in 1971... and it still works today.

 why walk to end of the pipeline why not use a grout pot two or three pipes from the boom grout up your pump then tip in grout in to grout pot and press pump button simple!

anytime i have to pump through system wheter it was 40ft or 300 ft i will fill my hopper bout half way with water, 1 slick pack just for giggles get the grout like a milkshake start pumping grout then begin mixing the mud about half way through the yard of grout, hasent failed me yet in 10 years, all that water keeps from getting that dreaded dry plug of grout from hitting dry system.

Do you guys prime everytime ?? I use water and don't seem to have any problems.

I hate my line pump it loves to plug have the best luck with cement mixed with water.
