Hi everyone! My name is Dave and I am a concrete finisher. I would like to start off by saying I am glad I found this forum and I hope to learn a whole lot here I have always been interested in getting into the concrete business and owning my own line pump looks like a great way to start being my own boss and making better money etc. Without having to get a contractors license. Basically my question right now is; If I buy my own line pump, can and will I, in time, make a decent living with it? I would be starting my business in the Tampa Bay area. I'm not bad at learning to fix mechanical things and I'm not a genius either. But I can tell you this, I am a hard worker and willing to do the work to learn if it will help me make a better living to better support my family and be my own boss. Im eager to get out there and make a name for myself. I already have a pump in mind to buy. It's on sale on Craigslist for 30,000 and I have the money to buy it. It's a reed A30 I believe is the model name. I would be using it to pour small slabs, footers, and residential lintels to start. It looks to be in great shape in the pictures compared to the pumps I see come to my jobsite! I understand I know very little right now about pumps and I'm hoping that I can change that! |

Well I guess this forum is not the place to be asking the kind of questions I'm asking at the moment or something I don't know... Again if anyone has any insight or links to somewhere that I can get more information it would be greatly appreciated... |

Hello Dave, I think everyone has had the same questions about going into the concrete Pumping business. Mike from Reed is right about you should get local input about what pump would be suitable for your area. I do not think anyone of us could tell you if you can make a go of it or not we do not know you or your area. The only input I could offer is. You must be a hard working guy+can manage your money to have $30,000 on hand. These two items are a must have to start a Pumping business. However you will need to answer your own question about making a good living off of Pumping (how much of a demand for local pumps are there? How many hours do you want to work pr day ect) best of luck with your discussion. |
