It's funny how you learn something and then forget about it or dont use the information for a long time. This little tip saved me from having to blow through an "orange" traffic light today! I was coming down a steep hill with a traffic signal at the bottom, the light was green but I noticed the red hand "dont walk" signal was flashing which told me the light was about to turn yellow. This gave me plenty of time to stop! So if you're ever worried that a traffic signal is about to change, just take a look at the cross walk signal... A "walk" sign means you've got plenty of time... A flashing "Dont walk" sign means the traffic light is about to turn yellow and it's time to hit the jake and start catching gears! Usually the "Dont walk" signal will flash for about 10 seconds before the light changes yellow. This can save you from passing that "point of no return" That's my Tip, Take it or leave it? |

We driver trainers were sent to Seattle to attend a seminar with the Hartford Co.The one thing they stressed was light recognition.By judging how long the light has been green can assist one in slowing before the light change. This was to help in case no cross lights were available. |

Les Ainsworth told me that trick at an ACPA seminar a long time ago. I had'nt thought about it for a long time until today, so I thought I'd pass it on or remind the ones who already know it? |

i have noticed that if there is a left turn lane with a solid stripe that is an inticator for stoping distance to the intersection and will also be the yellow to red timing for a car but with the truck lenght you can not make it so you would have to judge it at a different rate. |

In the area I live, the light will not turn if there are no cars at the intersection waiting for the light to turn green, due to sensors in the light. So I usually look to see if there are any cars waiting, because if there are not, then the light won't turn red. This is of course in my area which is smaller then in some other areas, so just be sure to use caution if you use this bit of advice. Signals that are on a timer generally do not go by this rule. |
