Noticing the water in the water box on my putz gets really dirty, to the point where you can't even see the cylinders anymore. And the water seems to leak out, not sure where??

how old are the mud cups?

how often is water changed out?

mud cups have never been changed.

water changed every couple hours, most of leaks out and i have to add more during the job.

how olds the pump? do you know the yardage thru it? i would start with piston cups that should do it if not you might have some scarred up cylinders,change the cups as fast as you can cause your eating the chrome off those material cylinders every stroke,one more thing if you cant take it out of service if you have some slick pack put a bag in your water box this should slow down the leaking until you can change the cups

If you're having to top it off during jobs, Its time for new piston heads/mud cups/delivery pistons or big rubber plunger thingies.. what ever you wanna call em, you need new ones.

Pudg is right, that slick pak in the water box helps it from leaking into the hopper by thickening the water

A word of caution!

If this is your first shot at this I would want you to read the service book on [how to] change them.

Please be aware that this is a very easy way to end up with crushed fingers and hands. If you want to stick your paws into the water box; make sure that FIRST - the keys are in your pocket.

word of caution,always have 2 people when changing cups never do alone get a experienced operator/mechanic to help you and show you the safe way

If you need a good headscratching situation, try this one. take all bolts out of dogbone on a putz, discover that the rod needs to be pulled up just a little bit more, and before you know it you have a loose mud cup halfway down the material cylinder, and the rod all the way up. Now what

easy fix

Yes the mud cups done 2 sets the first set easy The second set well alot of swaring was involved word from the wise do not do them alone..... IT also gives you a chance to look down your cylnders but if you can get a sewer and water main guy to come out and use his camera and video equipment to probe them that way you are safe and will have video of it If you have deep scratches then you might be looking at a larger repair.

Always make sure your keys are in your pocket and all the gauges have ZERO pressure on them.
