Your water wash works fine but in a city area a no no. All the over flow from you hopper while filling as shown does go down the drain. Whats wrong with shoving a sponge down your tip section and adding 5 gallons of water and suck back? You have to wash out your hopper any way. just a SIMPLE QUESTION. |

That was so funny, what can you expect from a kid.If you want to really learn how to water wash talk to a small line trailer pump operator. The only way to clean out is with water unless you work for a company that supplies a sponge. There is other ways to clean small line but i'll wait for the super pumpers. |

Can someone explain why they do this? I just suck a sponge back and wash out, why is this "water wash" better? |

i would not do this on a street. and there is nothing wrong with your way i was just showing everyone another way to clean the boom. and yes you still have to clean the hopper but there is really not that much in there. some sand and little bit of rocks.
wolf i dont understand. did you watch the video? that was not a line pump it was a 61. i water washed 120 feet of 2.5 inch one time but thats all. you should do a video i think that would be cool! o and i do know someone that sucked a ball back 400 feet on a small line pump. you must of forgot that you can do that to |

i never said it was better. why do you suck a ball is that better?i just think its another way. i do both. water wash and suck a ball just depends on what i want that day |

thanks for taking the time to make a video to show other ways of cleaning out. I personally am a sponge sucker, but maybe someday. |

Nice job! Talk the boss into letting you run a short boom and make another video. It would be nice to have a short boom and big boom model for everyone interested to watch. |

Short boom is really not much different just dont have to use so much water. I was taught to pump down to the agitator bar then fill the hopper up again and that is plenty for a small boom so about a hopper and a half. You definitely could use more to feel safer doesnt matter to much as long as the ready mixer has enough room in his drum for it. He left some details out of his video but did a great job other than that. |

I wasn't knocking your vid. i think it was good but let me refrase"a small line mechanical pump, not a hydrolic pump".There is only one small line mechenical pump that has reverse on it(can't remember the company)but i was only suggesting because it's the only way to wash out the hoses.I do think that you should have gooten a better shot of the hopper after you pumped it down, before you put the water in so guys could see what you were explaining but it was a start. |

Oregonfan like the video but i'm not a boom operator, only small trailer pumps.I think that what wolfman was saying (Hope i'm not wrong, don't want to get him on my bad side lol) is that if your lucky enough to get a company to buy some small sponges you can blow them through your hoses.Unfortainatly most companies say NO so we have to resort to Cave Man Style Wash Out.Walk the hoses out (don't like doing this)or you pump all the concrete out and then fill the hopper with water and pump it down, you continue this process until you get clean water out the end or you can stick a rag a bag and put it in the first hose and fill up with water and pump it out, works every time. But i think his point was that once you run a mechnical pump you learn how to do this so it's alot easyer to do once you advance to a boom pump. |

Small line trailer pumps are the ones that can only pump pea rock or grout, nothing bigger than a 2" hose.We consider the other ones Big Rock pumps because they pump every thing your booms can pump. |

I prefer the water blow out method to all others and here is why....It allows you to place the bulk of the mess (say in the garage or next to a footing where they will have to back fill any how) makes for the least mess where you dump your hopper (a wheel barrel of gravel and sand compared to a half yard of mud) unfortunately water blowing is not always feasible, in that case I prefer to suck a sponge. And last but not least is sucking a bucket fast but more gear you have to carry. |

Nice made video! I only water wash when I run a line pump. In my 60m I always suck 2 sponges back very slowly does a fine job. I say whatever works for the operator without causing a problem is great. I have water washed a schwing before but never a s-tube. A rock valve seems to leave less concrete in them when pumped all the way down. |

Good job on the video, very interesting. I know everyone has there own way of doing things, my question is do you have this big ass water truck on every job? It looks like you used about 200 gallons. I prefer using a go devil, but like i said everyone has there own way of doing things. Art if it was the stone age we would still be trying to reinvent the wheel, just like the water wash:[ |

It just seems sooo much easier to pump your hopper down then suck the sponge back. It takes a lot of h20 to water wash. Let's be green and save the water man LOL. |

I normaly just boom over to any pond, lake, stream, or backyard pool and throw the pump in reverse |

When I blow my 36m putz my water tank is sufficient with enough left over to wash the hopper out.

SUCK A BUCKET!! ITS WATER WASHING BUT BACKWARDS!! Every pump up here carries a 30-40 gallon trash can or 1/2 a plastic barrel. Cover the hopper, CAREFULLY pump until you get a little burp of air out the end. Put tip hose in barrel-o-water, turn up volume and suck it up! ZERO mess, less water used. and the mud in the hopper is still usable. And if you screw up or your battery dies you wont rock your boom off. I started doing this 10 years ago on pumps bigger than 36m because I did'nt like pump'n water then stopping to fill the hopper again. Ive done it All over, With rock-valves & S-tubes. And all sorts of mud. Wish I woulda known this when I ran a gate-valve. aka. "Tennesee Puddle Sucker" |

Hey guys, come to Georgia and see how your water washing goes. Had an operator from out west used to run a 55m, he tryed the water washing thing and plugged up every time. It would be fun to watch you guys in the modern ages come out here and show us stone age guys how to do it! |

Nice video, I see lots of negative replies to it. All I have to say is that I use only one hopper full to clean my 61. To all the guys that think sucking a sponge is better. ( Go ahead and try it on a pump that goes from 5 inch to 4 and 1/2 inch pipe right in the middle of the boom. How much mud do you think accumulates at the point of reduction. The sponge does not magically expand back up to 5 inch. |
