WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE PART OF THE JOB?

What I dislike the most is cleaning up. Picking up a thousand peices of wood, getting all dirty and wet washing out, gathering and loading your sytem. It seems they help so much when you set up and move but when you are done so are they. It should be policy tht they help pick up your stuff with you. Some contractors I have trained but others can care less about the clean up.

You must be new, they dont need you anymore when your finished get used to it.And if you aint never ran a Whiteman or Titan dont even complain about washing out, the longer you do it youll be able to washout without even getting filthy,if your running a linepump we started making our customers pay for an xtra man no matter how much line was out because the contractors would always leave us hanging,we just put it in on the hourly rate of the pump, but back to your question my least favorite part of the job I would have to say is the crazy hours, everything else is cool and the hours are even alrite after you get used to them

Well after 22yrs of pumping concrete I do still consider myself a newbie. If you had to pick up 30 6x6's and all that you would grow tired of it too. And washing out high early mixes. Having to lay down under your hopper to beat out the soild trap door even though You packed it with dirt. Come to GA and pump some of this mud and then you can call me a newbie if you can wash out with out getting dirty. But I am sure of one thing I learn everyday.

as a small owner operator ( one boom, two lines )   still really enjoy the pumping side,   but over time getting more and more fustrated with the one or two morans in the area.  Ten pump companies in the area, all pricing in the same ballpark,  but one jackass with a line and a small Fla based company with pricing levels that haven't been seen in ten or twelve years.   You hear stories that they are way behind on parts payments,     way behind on fuel payments, etc.......      Just makes you wonder !!!!!

i hate when your all done pumping and as soon as your done they ask for the job ticket then they take off leaving you to figure out where to get water to wash out or where the wash out pit even is , come on guys i helped you out so help me out , i also hate when the hose guy pushes the hose towrds my pump and splatters it with concrete ! nothing pisses me off more than that !

If the hose gets anywhere near my pump I keep it buried in the mud if I cannot run the hose full.

The least favorite part of my job is cleaning up disasters on the really bad days.

i am an owner/operator. the thing i hate most is dealing with employees. everyday seems like is there first one on the job. Some times i get so mad i feel like selling my equipment and just stay with one pump.besides that on the pumping side , i hate waiting to much for the last load.

didn't mean to offend ya,it is the dogdays of summer, and i understand,is that concord op friendly or is it just the hot mixes,I know over the years I have learned a few tricks to help with those long days with hot mixes but they are hard to do on a pump as big as the one you run,I know when I was on a 58 it was hard to do the same things I did on a smaller pump so hang in there because I remember those long hot days that ended with a brutal washout and picking up 230 lb outrigger pads,I dont miss it one bit and you was rite I've been learning since the first day I went out on a pump 20 years ago and I still try to learn something new everyday,so good luck and as I said I didn't mean to offend

The cleaning up has to be the worst part, but what upsets me the most is the lack of respect some people have towards others. I don't have a problem trying to reach hard places, or moving from one side of a wall to the other and back to fill drops. It is at the end when some people just walk by the back end of your pump, throw down their floats and shovels and expect you to clean them without even asking. I know it's probably not a big thing BUT, it is my water and you are going to ask before using any of it or clean any tools. I show them the respect by asking them where I can prime out and clean out so I don't make a big mess and even rake around the concrete from my hopper so it isn't in a big pile when I am done. I don't ask for much but I do ask for a little respect.

I hate it when you get in your last load and the foreman asks the mixer driver how much he has left and he says 5 or 6 yards so the foreman asks you to move the pump to the other end of the building so I do but then when you move you pump about 1 yard and the truck is out.I guess thats part of it

i have to agree with a earlier post the hardest thing is dealing with the 20 something year olds employees whining and acting like 2 year olds if i wanted to work at a daycare thats where id be,i got used to working with older guys that realized you gotta work in this world to make it,and its easier just to do it,whining just pisses people off and the bottom line is we still gotta job to do.

ps theres alot of shitty things with this job we could type all nite and not even scratch the surface, but we all know if you operate a pump truck and you are a professional you deserve respect, and at the end of the day thats really all we can ask for

hey bri how about this one. people that you call on for years will not use you or lie that they do not need a pump. well when the phone rings early and they give you the hour or two to be on the job and even if you do a good job taking care of them they do not use you again

pudg2 You did not offend me at all dude. I was thinking when I go to these long hot mix poors to line my hopper with grease never tried that wonder if will do any good. It really does depend on the mix. I pumped a 3500 mix today all freakin day and absolutly no build up whatsoever.

I also hate when the hoseman is being a butterfly. Has no pattern, makes 1 foot passes in the worst way in refrence to boom angle. I had a guy today that was IN LOVE with my hose. He never stopped hugging the damn thing the entire pour. In fact i suck in some air and the hose bounced aroud 8 feet and he went for a ride in the air. Whatever.....each hoseman is different.

B-Frog. I agree!!! I work hard on keeping my truck clean, and they are throwing concrete from the second floor(TODAY) or people who run your truck with no respect for the way they found it! Also bullsh*t finishers with bullfloats who leave TORTILLA chips in your paint job, ECT ECT ECT

READY MIX DRIVERS!!! The hoseman who expects you to read his mind and then proceeds to get pissed when you don't. i had a guy literally start pushing my hose today as if he could move the boom himself. i turned off my pump and let him walk away and proceeded to pump without him. The heat of the day is a real bummer here in Houston. Along with the humidity it's not unheard of to drink two gallons of water and hella gatorade. but most of all the customer who absolutely expects you to do something dangerous because another operator/company did it before. which is always bullshit when you hear that one.

100% Agree with Bullfrog and Mudslinger.  Keeping the truck clean, and having some jabrone of a co-worker not use any oil or a tarp then not wash any of the concrete off your freshly painted pump. Sorry, just had to vent a little, I've been full hot on the deal for 3 days now.

mixer drivers that spray your oil off, mixer drivers that let fin fish and other crap fall through the grate, mixer drivers that run into my pump, mixer drivers that cant keep the hopper full, mixer drivers that rinse there chute down with 50 gallons of water, mixer drivers that leave a yard behind my pump for me to clean up. I guess I dislike mixer drivers.

I get choked when I let finishers use my water to wash off their tools. I mean we all have to work together. I just get mad when all the mud they washed off ends up on my freshly polished rims.

when you are getting low on water and they want to wash $50 dollar boots and 10 shovel and you are trying to wash out machine that is worth more than some houses....

WHO?? 07-19-2008

I just don't let ANY ONE use my water until I am done washing out.

I would have to say my least favorite part is the whole ..."Well the last guy did it" thing then I have to explian why he souldn't have or didn't but usually it goes with out a big deal after I eplian that you can't do the same things with a 47 that you can a 32.

Alot of times customers will order a 32 knowing we have only 2 in the yard,So we send them what we can. This is another thing that irratates me.They order a small pump,And i will show up in a 39 and just barely reach it.I could go on and on.But the "Well the last guy did it" is the worst for me!!!

i agree w/ the majority of  all of u guys from disrespectful finishers to rookie a#@ mixerdrivers , but my worst has got to be the lack of consistency from ready mix plants , from improperly batched loads to ridiculosly late loads or all at once , all it takes is a little profesionalism from the r.m plants and maybee a phone call from the drivers to the plant to let them know how the job is going, i mean on a slab w/ grey beams and pluming and electrical evry where of course  they should slow it down a bit , but on a footing pour, keep them coming.
