Zim Mixers

You know, the trucks that make fresh concrete on site.  Is it possible for them to provide a pump mix?  I know that with a special component (fiber feeder) they can mix fiber into the mix, but I've never heard of them supplying a pump.

Also, in the priming threads some of you guys recommend a yard of grout.  What are the ingredients in grout?  Is there no rocks?

This isn't for a specific job, just outta curiosity.  Thanks.

i had one feed my machine once. you have to get the hopper low enough for it to work but it does. it was a simple grout mix used to fill chimneys on houses in The Presidio in San Francisco. if there's enough cement, water and sand you should be able to pump any mix no matter the source.

Cool.  I've always wondered and I've had people ask me also.  You wouldnt' remember how strong the mix was would ya?

use them all the time. they can mix grout to prime, then add rock. make sure that the rock is not too big for you and that they use enough sand. you have to cut them off before you end the pour because they also have the auger full of material.

Would a hopper of grout do for 100-200 feet of system?

half a hopper would do the job. with 2.5 inch hoses. i would have the hoses wet but no excess puddles in them just to eliminate the dry sand spots from a poor wash out.

The operator of that truck is the key to what comes out the end. Someone that knows his machine and has made concrete and grout for pumps will make for a good day for a pump operator.

The [good] guys that run those trucks are not just "mon-backs" they are operators too.

over here in PR they are very popular in some places. We use them with boom pumps too. i personally dont like them. they are slow, its better to use 2 at the same time. you got to be carefull because some times if the driver is not paying attention to his work the cement finishes and he will keep pouring sand and rocks to your pump and you already knoe the consecuences of that.

Hey Thomas, be sure to put water ahead of your grout. Sounds like a no brainer but people do it thinking that the grout is enough, without the water ahead of the grout it will dry up all the same and plug.
