Putzmeister Pump Breaks Another World Record at Burj Dubai April 2008
BSA 14000 SHP-D tops off at 1,988 ft. (606m)
STURTEVANT, WI (April 28, 2008) – Putzmeister shattered its own world record yet again in early April 2008, when a Putzmeister BSA 14000 SHP-D pump reached a concrete conveying height of an extraordinary 1,988 feet (606m) on the Burj Dubai. With that, the concrete pumping and placing is now complete on this remarkable project.
Unimix, the concrete supplier and pumping service for the project, first set its own record with its BSA 14000 SHP-D in May 2007 for reaching a conveying height of 1,483 feet (452m) for level 126 of the Burj Dubai, and then in November 2007 it broke a world record by conveying a height of 1,971 feet (601m) of concrete for Burj Dubai. The total number of floors at completion for Burj Dubai will not be revealed until the entire project is complete in 2008, but it is already the world’s tallest building.
“As a result of the predominantly steel construction of the last tower levels and the low concrete quantities used above 1,923 feet (586m),” says Christian Stirm, application engineer at Putzmeister Concrete Pumps GmbH in Aichtal, Germany. “The concrete pump was barely working to capacity for more than a few hours per week.”
Overall, the pumping station, including two specially made Putzmeister BSA 14000 SHP-D trailer-mounted concrete pumps and one BSA 14000 HP-D trailer-mounted concrete pump, have pumped approximately a total of 5,826,920 cubic feet (165,000m3) of high-strength concrete during the 32 months of operation.
“This extreme pump height was possible due to the trust and cooperation developed between the Samsung-led team, the machine operator Unimix, the local Putzmeister agent German Gulf Enterprises (GGE), as well as Putzmeister Concrete Pumps GmbH,” adds Stirm.
In addition to the record-setting BSA pump, a variety of Putzmeister equipment has been used to support this project, including a carefully engineered delivery line system; four non-ballasted stationary Putzmeister placing booms (three MX 28-4 T and one MX 32-4 T placing booms); and various Putzmeister truck-mounted boom pumps.
