Truck stop: once again, SED's Truck Zone is the place to be if you want to check out the best trucks, trailers and HGVs for the construction industry. Feb 1 2006
In case you haven't heard already, SED has found a brand new home at Rockingham Performance Park, formerly Rockingham Speedway, in Corby Northamptonshire and will be celebrating its 40th anniversary there on 16-18 May 2006.
An impressive array of trucks, trailers, tippers, LCVs, lorry loaders, HGVs and accessories will greet visitors to the all-new Truck Zone and nearby is a purpose-built 4x4 test area, where the off-roaders and ATVs can show visitors what they're capable of.
Vauxhall Commercial Vehicles will be bringing a range of top-notch vehicles to SED 2006. The stars of the show will include the latest Movano Crew cab-tipper model, with space for seven people, and the five-seater Combo crew van, which makes light work of transporting a crew and gear, as does the new Movano doublecab. Watch out too for the Vivaro panel van and Astravan.
The Clio Van, Kangoo Van, Trafic and Master will be on the Renault UK stand, while their bigger sisters from 2.8t to 44t will be exhibited on the Renault Trucks stand.
Iveco has booked a sizeable 24m x 24m stand and is promising a display of state-of-the-art vehicles ranging from 2.8t vans, distribution and construction trucks, through to 44t tractor units. This year, Iveco will share its stand with sister company Iveco Motors, which claims to be the world's largest manufacturer of diesel engines over 52kW.
Back at SED this year, and expecting to show three vehicles from its range of chassis, is Scania (Great Britain). The Scania range of 4x2, 6x2 and 8x4 models feature in many of the country's major fleets, as well as with smaller operators and owner-drivers.
Roger Dyson will be exhibiting a range of plant loaders and travelling axle trailers. Its Brimec plant loaders can handle loads from 3t to 30t and the slide and tilt action is said to be ideal for single operator use. Also on Roger Dyson's stand will be the company's range of travelling axle trailers.
Fassi UK will be showing its truck loader cranes in the Truck Zone this year. The company claims to have the industry's widest choice of cranes--from 1t to 150t capacity.
Isuzu Truck is planning to show both plant carrying and material transportation versions of its 7.5 tonner, which now features the semi-automatic Easyshift transmission as standard.
A brand new exhibitor to SED is S & B Commercials. The company is predominantly a Mercedes-Benz Truck and Mitsubishi Canter dealer, but also offers other equipment such as concrete pumps and mixers. It is planning to exhibit a Stetter truck mixer and a range of Schwing concrete pumps on Mercedes chassis. The company is also planning to bring a Mitsubishi Canter with an aluminium dropside tipper body.
Kel-Berg Trailers and Trucks will also exhibit a truck mixer, although the exact model has yet to be confirmed. Other exhibits planed for its stand are a tipping trailer and a rigid tipper (possibly with a grab loader).
Among the exhibits on the Edstrom stand will be one of the van racking, shelving and van accessories supplier's demonstration vehicles, kitted out with much of its range. While offering an extensive 'standard' range of arrangements, Edstrom also offers custom layouts for dedicated applications.
H-Module--now rebranded as Tevo--will be exhibiting its modular vehicle racking and storage systems. It says some new product additions to its ranges will be on show, as the company celebrates 25 years in the industry.
At last year's event, Hope Technical gained a new key customer--construction giant Laing O'Rourke--and it is hoping for similar success at SED 2006. On its stand will be the company's heavy-duty rear-protection bumpers for light commercial vehicles, including protection bumpers with towing facilities. Also on display will be the original Hope Safe-T-Bar, as well as a new Transit, Sprinter and Crafter.
Alongside Hope, the Autosonics team will be exhibiting the Back Minder reversing aid and other forward-thinking products.
As PMJ closed for press, Mercedes-Benz and Nissan booked stands in the Truck Zone, but have yet to announce exactly what vehicles they will be showing.
